How discounts reach checkout
What happens behind the scenes when you publish a deal — and why the cart always matches the widget.
You don't need to know any of this to use the app. But if you've ever wondered "how does BigCommerce know about my deal?", here's the short version.
Two parts: the widget and the price
Every deal has two parts that the app keeps in step for you:
- The widget — the offer block shoppers see on the product page. It's drawn by a small script the app added to your storefront when you installed it.
- The price at checkout — set up inside BigCommerce itself, so the discount is applied even if the shopper changes their cart, uses another device, or goes straight to checkout.
Because BigCommerce applies the discount, shoppers never need a coupon code, and the cart and checkout always show the same price the widget promised.
Which BigCommerce feature each deal uses
| Deal | What the app creates in BigCommerce |
|---|---|
| Quantity breaks | Bulk pricing rules on each product (e.g. "2+ items: 15% off") |
| Quantity breaks limited to customer groups | An automatic promotion |
| Buy X, get Y | An automatic promotion |
| Bundles | An automatic promotion that applies when every item is in the cart |
| Volume discounts | An automatic promotion |
| Free gifts | An automatic promotion that adds the gift to the cart |
You'll see these in BigCommerce under Products → (product) → Bulk pricing and Marketing → Promotions. Please don't edit them there — change the deal in the app instead, and the app updates them for you.
What "synced" means
When you publish or save a live deal, the app sends the change to BigCommerce. The status at the top of the editor tells you where things stand:
| You see | It means |
|---|---|
| Syncing prices with BigCommerce… | The app is setting up the prices. Large deals (many products) can take a minute. You can keep editing. |
| Live and synced (green) | Everything is in place. BigCommerce charges exactly what the widget shows. |
| Good to know (yellow) | It's live, with a note — for example, an "All products" deal is set up on each product the first time that product page is viewed. |
| BigCommerce didn't accept part of this deal (red) | Something needs fixing. The message says what BigCommerce rejected; fix it and click Try again. See Troubleshooting. |
When you pause, delete or uninstall
- Pause — the widget disappears and the app removes the deal's prices from BigCommerce. Your settings are kept, so Resume puts it back exactly as it was.
- Delete — same as pause, plus the deal and its stats are removed for good.
- Uninstall the app — every script, pricing rule, promotion and webhook the app created is removed from your store immediately.
- Your plan ends — live deals are taken off your storefront and checkout, but kept. Start a plan again and they go back live exactly as they were.
